Bloomberg’s Gurman: iOS 26’s Liquid Glass Design Foreshadowing 20th-Anniversary iPhone’s Curved Glass Edges

iOS 26‘s shiny new Liquid Glass design foreshadows the design of Apple’s upcoming 20th-anniversary iPhone, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman’s remarks came in his latest Power On newsletter.

The new interface elements are called Liquid Glass, and they have the sheen and see-through visuals of a glassy surface. It’s part of a push to make Apple’s operating systems more cohesive — with a similar look across the whole lineup. That will include transparency and shine effects in all of Apple’s tool bars, in-app interfaces and controls.

And just as the old flat design was created in concert with new devices — like the Apple Watch and larger iPhones — Liquid Glass will set the stage for fresh hardware products. That includes a 2027 iPhone that will be overhauled to commemorate the iconic product’s two-decade anniversary.

Gurman said that the upcoming device – codenamed internally as the “Glasswing” in reference to a type of butterfly that has transparent wings – will feature curved glass edges, extraordinarily slim bezels, and a truly edge-to-edge screen with no cutout.

The all-glass 20th-anniversary iPhone, which is expected to launch in September 2027.

iOS 26’s new Liquid Glass design is widely expected be unveiled during Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote this Monday.
